A grant in the amount of $3000 was awarded to the Wellington Garden Club by the Florida Wildflower Foundation. The Grant was used to install a wildflower meadow at Greenbriar Park in Wellington. The grant was written by Garden Club member, Lisa Ferrano, with cooperation from the Village of Wellington.
The site was solarized for 2 months and has been planted in two stages. The first planting of native grasses and fall blooming wildflowers was on September 26, 2023. The second planting of Spring blooming wildflowers was in March 2024. Click PHOTOS (#1) for photos showing the progress of the plantings. Click PHOTOS (#2) for photos taken on 12/7/2024 which shows the beauty of the garden after a year of growth. Click LIST OF PLANTS for the variety of plants in the meadow.
The meadow is a demonstration garden visible and accessible to families, schools, and communities to promote the use of native plants for creating diverse landscapes which, in turn, promote wildlife diversity and ecological stability. The Meadow is also certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Certified Wildlife Habitat.
Justin Ramich, a Boy Scout from Troop 125 in Wellington, has an Eagle Scout project which is enhancing the beauty of the Wildflower Meadow.
