Irene has a dual Master’s degree in Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management.  She is the Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserves (IRLAP) manager for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.  IRLAP manages seven of the state’s 41 aquatic preserves; Mosquito Lagoon, Banana River, Indian River Lagoon – Malabar to Vero Beach, Indian River Lagoon – Vero Beach to Ft. Pierce, Indian River Lagoon – Ft Pierce to Jupiter Inlet, Loxahatchee River – Lake Worth Creek, and North Fork of the St. Lucie River.  She will be presenting a program on the work that her office does in the seven preserves they manage such as shore bird surveys, seagrass monitoring, spoil island management, Diamond back terrapin genetic study, riverine restoration projects, exotic species removal, education and outreach, oyster reef monitoring and public use and access.
